Happy New Year!

It's 2010! Remember when that year sounded really futuristic and we thought we'd be traveling around in levitating cars? Or at least traveling to Jupiter to find out what happened to David Bowman? Wow. A new year is always a good time to make resolutions, but I am not going to post about that right now- other than to say that one of my goals for the 2010 is be more positive. About life in general. About other people (including colleagues and students). I don't want to get caught up in negative energy, so I am going to work on this.

I only have one more week before classes start and I am leaving town on Thursday for a short trip that I can't blog about right now. That means I have Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday to get ready for Monday's classes and pack! I am considering leaving the tree up until MLK weekend at this point. We were away for 10 days, so I hate to take it down today. Maybe Sunday. We've been welcomed back to Small College Town with an arctic blast that feels that much worse after spending a week in Warm State. Sigh. I'm going to be cooking a dish black-eyed peas for dinner (since it's supposed to be good luck) and doing laundry and just staying inside (and wearing long underwear!)

How are you spending the first day(s) of 2010?

Love this song...

And the video is amazing, too- I'd love to see it non-internet form...

I'd be scared of falling off that train!

Trailer Tuesday

I finally saw this on DVD over the weekend. I was afraid it might be too painful to watch, but it was hilarious- and disturbing at the same time. Sacha Baron Cohen is absolutely crazy (& fearless).

Trailer Tuesday

In honor of Chaser's cool 1980s trailer...

My brother and I watched this movie every day one summer when we were in teens (we had taped it from HBO). Before the movie, we probably saw this too:

Trailer Tuesday (5 days late!)

Just catching up.... I saw this one on DVD recently. It was really good.

Trailer Tuesday

I watched this on one of the movie channels (HD) a couple weeks ago. Quite disturbing. H was so pissed off at the adulterer, that he couldn't even watch it after the first hour! Jonathan Rhys Meyers was lovely to look at, though...

Trailer Tuesday

I started watching this on the treadmill this morning. I saw it once before about 7 years ago, so I don't remember the details very well. It's a great movie to watch while exercising because of the great music! It should get me through three walking sessions!

In other news... the job offer pondering continues...

Trailer Tuesday

This movie will PISS YOU OFF & make you hate men. Well, some men, anyway. I cannot even imagine living & working under such oppressive conditions- I don't know how they did it.

Another NetFlix selection...

Trailer Tuesday

D has been home sick since Sunday (some intestinal virus or something). The DVD player is getting some good use, since she blazed through her DVR'd shows pretty quick. Here's one she watched this morning (note: this is a 'homemade' trailer that someone posted- I couldn't find a good quality one on YouTube)

Trailer Tuesday (oops!)

Wow- where did Tuesday go?? Since I forgot to post a trailer yesterday here are TWO YouTubes for you. The first is a wonderful movie- don't let the slow b/w beginning fool you. Most of the movie is told in flashback (which is in color) . If you haven't seen it, add it to your Net Flix queue soon! The second is a hilarious fake commercial from Conan O'Brien. "...it's a treadmill..."

doh! (as in Homer Simpson) They removed the Conan O'Brien clip from YouTube, so here's a link. Under videos, click iPhone Commercial.

Trailer Tuesday (& 200!)

Hi everyone- not much time for a post today, as I am drowning in class-prep (on my supposedly research-only day!), annual report/tenure dossier, letters of recommendation today. However, I just saw this movie over the weekend (thanks, NetFlix!). We loved it...

This is my 200th post, too!

Trailer Tuesday

This is one of my favorite movies. Maybe it's because I am such a science nerd, but I LOVE that it was written by Carl Sagan. I almost cried in the movie theater when they showed the "For Carl" before the end credits (he died before the movie was released). I really need to buy this one on DVD.

Trailer Tuesday

This week's trailer is from another movie I saw recently (NOT in the theater). H and I see most movies on TV- either DVD or on the one the HD movie channels- and this is one we watched a few weeks ago. It was directed by Spike Lee, but quite different from most of his movies. It is very suspenseful and I didn't figure it out until the very end- it keeps you guessing and wondering exactly what is going on and will happen. If you haven't seen it- I highly recommend it. The second clip is the music video for the song that plays in the movie's opening and closing credits. It's from India- which seemed an odd choice since it unrelated to the movie. But- I liked it and the video is really interesting, too.

Did my ex-boyfriend join a band??

The lead singer of The Killers looks so much like my ex-boyfriend from grad school (my friends know him as "drunk poet"), that it was freaking me out when I saw this a while back. I've seen photos of the singer without the goatee and the resemblance isn't there, but in this clip, it's uncanny!

Testing... (YouTube)

link to video

testing manual link to YouTube

Damn you, new Blogger! I am no longer able to post YouTube clips from YouTube (I keep getting login errors- even after updating my info in YouTube). To work around the problem, I copied the code from last week's Trailer Tuesday (before I switched to *new* blogger) and changed the letter/number code for the clip- works like a charm!

Trailer Tuesday

Trailer Tuesday

An idea from Dr. Lisa! I just saw this movie recently and really liked it. I also love the trailer, especially the music that plays in the last 60 seconds. I found out that it is a song called "How it Ends" by Devotchka. If you haven't seen this movie- check it out!
