Movies!!!

We don't go to the movies very often, because we don't have a regular babysitter (she graduated last year). Instead, we rent a lot of movies from NetFlix and record HD movies on our DVR. Last night we watched 'Garden State'. We both enjoyed it, but wonder why it has a rating of 8 on IMDB? I didn't think it was that great- a little slow at times, too. If anyone out there loves this movie, please tell me what I missed. Two nights ago, I watched 'The Life of David Gale' by myself. H thought a movie about the death penalty would be too depressing, so he didn't want to watch it. I thought it was a good movie and was surprised to find that a lot of people (including critics) hated it. I don't know if it's because I'm opposed to capital punishment or what, but I thought it was a good movie. The night before that, we watched 'Frida', which we both really enjoyed. It was especially fun to watch, since we were just in Mexico City two months ago. I had wanted to see that movie for quite some time, so it was good to finally see it. Our next NetFlix movie should arrive today ('When Harry Met Sally'), so we'll be watching that one soon. It's one of my favorites and I can't wait to see it again! We'll be going to see 'The DaVinci Code' during a matinee (while D is in school!) next Friday. H read the book and we are both excited to see it.

"The Edukators"...it's not about teachers. I just went through this two-week binge of German flicks and that was the best of what I saw. Not bad.

Taking a break from DVDs and seeing "Art School Confidential" today.

"I Heart Huckabees" was great. Enjoy.

Cheers.

Thanks, App Crit- maybe we'll check that one out! The plot sounds strange- is it disturbing?

No, not disturbing, Addy. Not a Disney flick, either. I saw this after about two weeks of German movies (my silly way of trying to keep my language skills up--not sure if it really works ;) and many were trying to be, well...too much.

This was more interesting. it's about what happens to ethics and idealism as we get older. Both youth and "experience" are under scrutiny. Strange movie, but engaging.

Enjoy your movie season. It's summer!

Cheers.

I would recommend the book A Prayer for Owen Meany instead of watching the movie Simon Birch. The movie did not do it justice.
