Happy New Year!

It's 2010! Remember when that year sounded really futuristic and we thought we'd be traveling around in levitating cars? Or at least traveling to Jupiter to find out what happened to David Bowman? Wow. A new year is always a good time to make resolutions, but I am not going to post about that right now- other than to say that one of my goals for the 2010 is be more positive. About life in general. About other people (including colleagues and students). I don't want to get caught up in negative energy, so I am going to work on this.

I only have one more week before classes start and I am leaving town on Thursday for a short trip that I can't blog about right now. That means I have Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday to get ready for Monday's classes and pack! I am considering leaving the tree up until MLK weekend at this point. We were away for 10 days, so I hate to take it down today. Maybe Sunday. We've been welcomed back to Small College Town with an arctic blast that feels that much worse after spending a week in Warm State. Sigh. I'm going to be cooking a dish black-eyed peas for dinner (since it's supposed to be good luck) and doing laundry and just staying inside (and wearing long underwear!)

How are you spending the first day(s) of 2010?

We're keeping our tree up until February 2nd. That's when we Mexicans celebrate "Dia de la Candelaria". Traditionally, January 6th is when the Mexican kids get their presents (from the wise men), and on that day we have a king's cake and whoever gets the tiny plastic baby hidden inside, has to throw a big party on February 2nd... thus my tree is staying up until then! (Which reminds me that my wise men should get closer to the tree!) :)

I like that Super Babe! Maybe we'll keep it up until MLK, then. I don't think H would appreciate leaving it up until February! LOL!
