RBOC: TGIF Edition

  • I spent most of day in meetings. I realize they are necessary, but I can't help but feel like my day mostly wasted.
  • I am wondering if D's riding lesson will happen tomorrow morning when it is supposed to go into the teens tonight. I don't know if gets too cold for the horses, but it will certainly be too cold for me & D.
  • My MacBook seems to have recovered nicely from Wednesday's problem- you can bet that I will be backing up almost daily now, though.
  • I have been pondering what to do about my failed RA. S/he will definitely NOT be working for me next year, but that causes a lot of other issues for lots of things that I just don't want to get into right now. The whole thing makes me feel sick. Ugh.
  • I am sooo looking forward to having a break next week. Since I teach MWF, I only teach Monday next week- AND one class is discussion lead by a student and the other is open time for paper revision (students will come to see me for help). I am hoping to get some research work done for a change.
  • Here's a question for everyone: do you have classes next Wednesday? Our Thanksgiving break starts that day (no classes). When I was a college student, they cancelled classes after 3:00PM that Wednesday, but that was it. I am curious if this is a new thing or what? D is also out of school on Wednesday- and when I was growing up, we never had that day off.
  • There are some typos, but I am too tired to fix them. Sorry.

Our classes go until 5 pm on Wednesday, although lots of folks cancel afternoon classes (I can't, unfortunately, as I've missed so much this semester but have encouraged students to come to the earlier section rather than missing class entirely). I'm done at 3. I wish they'd give us Wednesday off: this is the first break our students have had since Labor Day (no Fall break for us) and most of them are fried!

No classes on Wednesday. I cancelled my classes on Tuesday because I just know no one will show up!

I think we had it off in undergrad. I guess it's off at my current university, since I don't remember any conflicts when I was taking classes.

I always take Wednesday off because I need it to travel. I guess if I had something seriously important that day I'd work, but otherwise Thanksgiving with my family is more important.

Our classes go until 9:30pm on Wednesday and we were told that we cannot cancel them. However, there was nothing said about leaving early! We had it off when I was in school, which I think is the best way to go - most students skip it anyway!

My grad school has the whole week off, but my undergrad school had classes through Wednesday. Students whine about having to attend the last day of classes before the break either way...

I teach writing, so I often arrange to meet/conference with student the week before and then, instead of taking a class period off that week, we take it the week of thanksgiving. It works out pretty well.
