Rant, continued- with shiny new updates!*
So after missing yesterday's lunch to spend my usual lovely day with D (we hit Kohl's, Old Navy, Cost Plus, Thai food, & the mall), my chair gave my HOME NUMBER TO A NEW GRAD STUDENT who wanted to know about one of my fall classes. I sent a disgruntled email telling him how this was inappropriate and we have now been having a pretty heated email exchange with mentions of how I "violated university policy" since I wasn't at this stupid lunch (I guess being in the office three days this week, meeting with students, replying to their emails, and meeting other service obligations is NOT considered being "available to students"this week). As you can imagine, I am just thrilled to be going back to work next week.

Sweet flying Jupiter!!! I would be totally annoyed at the exchange. First the privacy of my home is invaded ("telephonically", that is -- and that should totally be a word, by the way) then I get crap for not being at a lunch on crazy move-in day?!
Breathe... just breathe... But I would remind him that your home phone number is YOURS to give to people...
Enjoy your weekend? ;)
Oh, I would be livid if the dept gave out my cell #. In our world, the secretaries act as intermediaries and start harrassing in those situations, which is annoying enough when the student has only been looking for you for 2 min and hasn't tried to email or anything yet.
Oy. That's totally annoying.
On a totally unrelated note: I just remembered that you and D were in one of my dreams! We were hanging out. I think we had some ice cream. It was nice to see you. :)
Z: that is so awesome! We should definitely have a meet-up the next time we come out that way! How funny- and that ice cream was involved, too!
wait what? totally wrong, seriously
erhhh...I don't know. I'd hear about it if I wasn't at one of our lunches, and while I don't think it's ok to give out cell phones, but you have to know they are going to be riding your ass to keep playing by the rules once they've granted you tenure.
