Happy Loving Day!

If you've never heard of this holiday or wonder what it's about, this blog post sums it up very nicely. It seems especially fitting to think about the discriminatory laws this country has had in the past, when we have similar laws on the books today.

I had heard of the trial but not the Day...this law makes my marriage possible. All those who support Prop 8 should really take a look at history. The same "It's not right!" arguments that are used to defend Prop 8 would have once been used to argue the immorality of my (and many other) marriages.

HAPPY LOVING DAY TO ALL!!

Great post, Seeking Solace! And I had never heard of this until last year, I think... I knew that interracial marriage was illegal in many southern states, but hadn't realized how recently- check out this map. Spread the word! I completely agree that the rhetoric used to support all of these anti-same-sex marriage amendments is eerily similar- and just as absurd. I hope that someday people will be saying that they never realized that same-sex marriage was ever illegal!!

By the way- click on the states on that map- it shows samples of laws- in some cases whites weren't allowed to marry people of Asian descent and even sex between races was illegal!
