I don't have it in me to be depressed for very long- I am thankful that I am like this, too! I'm feeling OK about the prospect of spending my career here in Small College Town- it's certainly not the worst place to be. Here are some good things about NOT getting job offers:
- We don't have to move.
- We will be financially better off (the cost of living is pretty reasonable around here).
- We will move closer to Major City once we (hopefully) get tenure.
- I will (hopefully) have only one more year as an assistant professor.
- I can try to start some research in Adopted-Home State & make more frequent trips out there.
- Maybe life will be a bit less stressful as an associate professor (that is- IF I get tenure!)
- H, D, & I all have each other!
We had a nice trip to the Indian buffet for lunch today, followed by a stop at Trader Joe's. It's been snowing off and on, but not sticking to the ground. I sure hope spring arrives sooner rather than later- I've been freezing this winter! I'm still feeling a little bitter- we will be attending a conference in one of the cities where I interviewed next month. I wonder how agonizing it will be thinking that we could have almost lived there! ;( ... and it's an awesome city.

1. Wait - do you know anything for sure (The Scream could be interpreted as frustration about waiting...), or are you just trying to make yourself feel ok either way? (that's ok too)

1. No- I don't actually know anything- it's all just my own brand of neuroses AND trying to prepare for rejection. As you know- the more time that passes with these things, the less likely the news will be good. I am also married to a total pessimist, so even my cheery attitude isn't sustaining me this time!

3. Yeah- Major City isn't bad- we'd move to northern suburbs because the school district there is very good and the commute to Small College Town wouldn't be too bad.
4. Dude- there's a TJ's in Major City (for the last few years). I guess you didn't know that there are also TWO in Capitol City of Your State?? See this (pdf)
5. Yes- I realize this, but since you're a post-doc I'm assuming you won't be there forever!
